![]() ![]() And all it takes is a handful of quick taps in your Android Calendar app. Here's a little secret: You can put a stop to this madness. Worse yet is when your event is virtual but in a different video meeting service, like Zoom, and then everyone you invite ends up getting both the correct link and a meaningless Meet link for the same event. That's fine and dandy if your event actually includes a Meet-based video meeting, but it's pretty annoying - and potentially confusing - when your event is something that's in person. Have you ever noticed how Calendar developed an irksome habit of automatically adding Google Meet links into every forkin' event you create? Here's an easily overlooked and incredibly handy gesture in the Calendar Android app: From the agenda view, you can swipe any event or reminder toward the right to delete it in a single, swift action. That'll zip you back to today, no matter how far into the future you've traveled. A handy way to snap to todayĪnytime you're scrolling through your agenda view in the Calendar app and want to jump back to the current day, tap the small calendar icon (the box with a dot it in, directly to the left of your profile picture in the upper-right corner of the screen). Who knew?! And speaking of shadowy shortcuts. Tap on the bar a second time (or swipe back up, with your finger starting just beneath that area) to hide it when you're done. When you need to glance at a full-month view whilst thumbing through your events, take note of the following invisible Calendar shortcut: You can tap or swipe downward on the app's top bar - where it says the current month's name - to bring a monthly view into focus. Now if only our actual meetings could be condensed down so easily! 4. In addition to sliding an event around to move it in the Calendar Android app's event creation quick-peek interface, you can touch your finger to the dots on the top or bottom of your event's outline and then slide up or down from there to make the event longer or shorter. Nifty, no? And there's one more piece to this puzzle yet. Simple event slidingĪfter you've entered that concealed quick-peek view, remember this: If you decide you need to shift your new event around to another time, you can simply touch and hold the outline on your screen and slide your finger up and down to move it. Wouldya look at that?! You can actually minimize that event creation interface down and browse around on your calendar behind it.Īnd that's not all. ![]() The next time you're adding a new event on your phone and you find yourself wondering what else is on your agenda around that same time, tap the line - or, alternatively, swipe downward anywhere within the main event creation area of the screen. See that barely noticeable light-gray line at the top of the Calendar app's event creation screen? The one that looks vaguely like an arrow pointing downward? JR After years of using Google Calendar on Android, I just noticed a curiously camouflaged option that'll change the way you create events on your phone. And the Android Calendar app doesn't do much to help offer any broader calendar context while you're in the midst of adding in a new event. I've certainly been there (well, not to the podiatrist, specifically, but in the general event brain fog situation). What else did you have going on that day? Did you need to schedule the event for 2:00 p.m., or would 3:00 be better? When was that podiatrist appointment, again? You open the screen to add the event in - then you suddenly find yourself facing a foggy mental blank. Tell me if you can relate to this: You head into the Calendar app on your phone to create a new event. From time-saving shortcuts to efficiency-boosting options, they're all things that have the potential to make your life easier in small but significant ways.įind time in your agenda to check out these 12 hidden Google Calendar features on Android. And while the majority of the service's advanced options revolve around the Calendar website, the Calendar Android app has its share of handy out-of-sight options that are specific to the mobile experience. Yes, oh yes: Just like so many of our modern digital tools, there's more to Google Calendar than meets the eye. Google Calendar is a core part of the Android productivity package - but if all you're using is what you see on the app's surface, you're missing out on some pretty powerful possibilities.

Two other Fireflash craft - 3 and 4 - later went missing, disappearing without trace into the sea. And it worked - notwithstanding damage to Fireflash's nose as it scraped along Runway 29, as well as to the Elevator Cars themselves ( Trapped in the Sky). International Rescue - already monitoring the situation - arrived on the scene with a rescue plan, involving Elevator Cars to stabilize Fireflash's compromised undercarriage and to act as its landing gear. Early rescue attempts included the flight crew carrying out violent manoeuvres to loosen the bomb (to no avail) and putting a man aboard the plane to remove the bomb - which also came to nothing when he fell from the aircraft, parachuting to safety. The Hood had planted a bomb in the airliner's undercarriage, inhibiting its ability to land. The Fireflash fleet has been subject to a number of sabotage attempts - the first of which came during its maiden flight and was a particularly notable incident, due to the fact that the rescue of the aircraft, its crew and passengers, introduced International Rescue to the world. ![]()

It goes like this: Joy’s computer had once again filled up with duplicate photos. LITTLE ROCK We wrote about this before - but it’s been a couple years and the problem is still out there. However, a change in the way MYOB expects you to register the application may alienate some people. Minor tweaks to other aspects of the program give users greater report customization, better security in a multiuser setting, and a vastly improved user manual. You can also customize field location, size, and fonts. MYOB has also significantly improved AccountEdge’s form-customization capabilities, which now let you insert a variety of image formats and add new fields to any of the program’s forms. You can now create users to whom you assign individual passwords, and then you can customize their access to the program on a feature-by-feature or even a screen-by-screen basis. MYOB has made significant changes to AccountEdge’s security features. In the past, the program implemented user access poorly, making it difficult to restrict individual users to specific information. These are roughly analogous to the fees that businesses routinely pay financial institutions for electronic transfers and credit card transactions.Įarlier versions of AccountEdge allowed you to create groups of users according to job classifications such as accounting or sales the new version does that and lets you create individual users. Both features require that you pay monthly and transactional fees to MYOB. AccountEdge also includes a new integrated direct-deposit feature that allows you to make electronic funds transfers (EFTs) to vendors and process payroll without having to write, print, or sign any checks. Once you’ve set up your customers to use a credit card, AccountEdge retains their information, so processing future transactions is easy. ![]() A new MYOB Merchant Account Service allows you to process credit card transactions from within AccountEdge. AccountEdge’s updates facilitate the processing of electronic banking transactions. But several new features will enhance the way you do business with customers and vendors, and will make it easier to process employee payroll. If you’ve used previous versions of MYOB’s AccountEdge, you won’t notice many differences in this version’s functionality or interface. None of these features will make you stand up and shout, but they are significant improvements over version 5. QuickBooks’ other new features include one-click export of reports to Excel spreadsheets (another boon for cross-platform file sharers), better customization of the program’s toolbars, automatic file backups, and the ability to check for software updates from within the program. This option requires that the recipient on the Windows side treat the Mac data file as a QBW backup file and “restore” the data. Getting data files to a QBW user still isn’t as easy as giving the person your Mac data file - the procedure with AccountEdge, MultiLedger, and MoneyWorks - although Intuit has made the process clearer by adding a Create A File For QuickBooks For Windows option to the File menu. In fact, its most significant new feature is its ability to open QBW data files, so users can finally transfer data both ways. QuickBooks is now much better at sharing data files with QuickBooks for Windows (QBW). QuickBooks remains intuitive and easy to use, making business accounting as easy as entering checks in the register of your personal checkbook. ![]() While these are welcome and necessary, I wish it offered more. Version 6.0 sports only a few new features and minor improvements. Unfortunately, one year later, not much has changed. April 2003), the program was not much different from the product Intuit had dropped from production in 1997, and it was significantly less impressive than its Windows counterpart. ![]() ![]() When I reviewed Intuit’s business accounting package Two of the usual suspects, AccountEdge and QuickBooks, as well as MoneyWorks, are excellent solutions for users with demanding accounting needs, while the inexpensive and aptly named TinyBooks provides good tools for tracking basic income and expenses. And they all offer text or graphical reports. All of them feature an array of accounting tools suitable for a variety of business needs, from basic income and expense tracking to payroll management. I looked at five accounting packages: CheckMark Software’s MultiLedger 6.0.7, Cognito Software’s MoneyWorks Gold 4.0.9, Intuit’s QuickBooks Pro 6.0, MYOB’s AccountEdge 2004, and Space-Time Associates’ TinyBooks 1.1.4. But at the end of the day, you want a package that tracks income and expenses, and that gives you some insight into the past, current, and future state of your business - all with a minimum of hassle. Depending on the kind of business you have, your accounting requirements may run the gamut from extraordinarily simple to unbearably complex. |
